Detoxification is an important first step toward attaining physical health after long-term substance use. Some of our clients choose to use MD Home Detox solely for the purpose of detoxification. We recommend a supportive longer-term treatment plan that includes different types of services to address the underlying reasons for substance use and to support lasting change.
Once our clients have stabilized after detoxification, they sometimes use referrals to our extended network to transition to other long-term facilities or outpatient programs. Some of our clients choose to continue to work with an extended treatment team of medical professionals, case managers, therapists and alcohol and drug abuse counselors. All of our treatment network of professionals have been trained in the practice of treating co-occurring disorders and are sometimes involved in cases for up to one year when necessary.
Our assessment process includes an evaluation of food and dietary needs and we provide access to nutritionists for clients interested in improving their health through food planning. Some of the case managers in our network assist clients by grocery shopping and meal planning for them on a weekly or daily basis.
Detoxification can be an uncomfortable process, and sometimes clients change their minds under the stress of withdrawal. While you are detoxing, your team will be by your side, coaching and using care, compassion and motivational interviewing strategies to support you toward your goal to detox.
This will depend on the acuity of your detox and the substances you are removing from your system. You and your doctor will determine the right medications for you, to make you as comfortable and safe as possible. Our approach to detoxification is to ensure that you are comfortable for the duration of your detox, but are free and clear of all medications related to the detox once you have stabilized.

Our assessment and screening process includes assessing how to best support your detox at home. Some home environments are conducive to having the family stay in the home. Some families prefer to stay with family, friends or at a nearby hotel while their family member is detoxing at home.
This is a time for you to heal so we recommend taking time off work for the duration of your detox to allow you to focus on yourself. Most of our clients take 7-14 days off work. Some clients have found it possible to do some light work from home, answering emails for example, and some have found it best to tell their employers that they are on vacation.
Yes, a licensed nurse will be present 24/7.
We recommend having a home clean of drugs and alcohol during active detoxification, as this process is taking place in the home. Once you have stabilized, we will work with you and your family to support your plan toward achieving treatment goals. This often includes an exploration of the pros and cons of keeping substances in the home, and how it affects the overall well-being of each family member.
Every client has different needs. Some clients are able to drink responsibly once they have completed detoxification and some are not. You and your treatment team can discuss what will help you meet your recovery goals.
Our Medical Doctors will work closely with any psychiatrist you currently see to ensure continuity of medication treatment while you detox. However, we believe that once your body has been stabilized, you may need a reevaluation of all your medications and a psychiatrist will be an integral part of that planning.
It is never a bad idea for a family that has been affected by addiction to get support. We have a network of trusted professionals that we can refer to that includes Marriage and Family Therapists who can provide family counseling and connect family members with community supports if needed.
MD Home Detox has a referral network of Marriage and Family Therapists available if this is appropriate for your treatment plan. Our treatment team always recommends having a safe and successful detox before engaging in any kind of therapy.
Once you have stabilized, you can exercise. Our concierge services can help in connecting you with personal trainers and provide transportation to and from appointments and work-out facilities if necessary.
You and your doctor can determine how this might affect the detoxification process and modify the plan if necessary.
MD Home Detox helps clients determine the best ways to address relapse before relapse occurs. These options might include re-engaging with a sober companion or beginning treatment with an Intensive Outpatient or Inpatient facility. Your extended treatment team will work with you to assess the reasons for relapse, and will support you in implementing plans to get you back on track.
