This is a time where there is a lot of concern surrounding the spread of COVID-19 and we know that many clients are choosing to stay home in order to avoid the virus and stop it’s spread. Social distancing is extremely important to us as we understand that it’s going to take a group effort in order to slow down the spread of the virus. Unfortunately, this is also a time when many people are turning to substances as a way to cope, and there are many others who currently need treatment. Despite the current events, there is still a need for quality treatment- MD Home Detox is continuing to provide that in the safety of the client’s home.
We wanted to make sure that you and your patients are aware of the Intervention and In-Home Detox services that we offer, and we’re available to chat if you want to learn more about this unique solution during this time. We’re dedicated to helping people begin- and continue- on the path of recovery through this outbreak. Our staff is taking all of the necessary steps to ensure our team and our clients are properly screened as we continue to provide our services. In order to do this we are doing the following:

- All Patients are screened
- Sanitation & cleanliness is a top priority (as it always has been).

Dr. Abe Malkin, MD MBA is a California native, growing up in Los Angeles. He attended Yeshiva University in New York, NY where he received his undergraduate degree. He went on to complete a combined MD/MBA degree from a joint program at Tufts University School of Medicine and Brandeis University Heller School of Business. At Kaiser Permanente in Los Angeles, he completed his Family Medicine Residency Training. In addition to overseeing home detox cases with MD Home Detox, he is active in other areas of Addiction Medicine, serving as the Medical Director for The View Detox Center and on staff at Avalon Malibu Treatment center. Sara has spent almost 20 years in the medical field. Her journey within the field of addiction began in 2010 with adolescents. Sara saw a need in working with adults suffering from addiction when seeing how adults also lack the necessary support and accountability, many who experienced childhood abandonment and neglect. Sara dedicates her time, at work, to client’s health related needs, but also strives to help with their general well-being.
Karen Barton is Registered Nurse, Certified health/transformation coach, and mentor who partners will other professionals in healthcare and wellness to assist people who are wanting to change their life. After spending over a decade in health care working in areas from ER/ICU, case management, acute rehab, management/leadership positions, and home health and helping multiple people in their toughest times, Karen knows what truly helps impact and changes lives. Karen believes it’s how well you connect with the heart-beating people you’re trying to help and communicate your understanding back to them. Karen assists people in developing a strong ”Why” to help bring about personal transformation during the most difficult and challenging times in a person’s life.
Karen holds a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Chamberlain University and plans to continue pursuing her Masters degree in nursing and business. Karen is a Certified Health Coach with MacDonald Center for Obesity Prevention and Education & College of Nursing at Villanova University. Karen has received many honors during her career, graduating third in her nursing class and recognized in 2018 as RN of the year. Karen truly believes assisting people through the recovery and health/wellness journey is the greatest honor and privilege.
Julianne Norton graduated with her RN, BSN from Penn State University. She worked at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for two years as an inpatient oncology nurse. She then worked at Drexel Medicine outpatient oncology infusion as an infusion nurse, during which time she received her designation as an Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN). She then worked as an outpatient infusion nurse at Penn Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania for 5 years. She relocated to Los Angeles in July 2019 and currently works as an outpatient hematology/oncology infusion nurse at The Angeles Clinic and Research Institute, a Cedars-Sinai affiliate. She is also an infusion nurse for Concierge MD. Julianne recently completed a Certificate of Advanced Study in Complementary and Integrative Therapies through Drexel University.
Kristina Lansang received her RN, BSN from Simmons University in Boston, MA. She worked at Dana Farber Cancer Institute as a clinical research coordinator focusing on cancer genetics and oncology patients’ perspectives on medical marijuana use. She then worked at Finch Therapeutics Group as a clinical nurse where she recruited and screened qualified donors for patients who were undergoing clinical trials for fecal matter transplants. Kristina currently works at The Angeles Clinic and Research Institute, an affiliate of Cedars Sinai Medical Foundation, as an oncology nurse and is an infusion nurse for Drip Hydration. She is also a student at George Washington University to obtain a Master in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner degree.
Jose finished his education at LMU and received his CADAAC certificate. Jose is the director at Riviera Recovery, sober living homes in Mar Vista and Pacific Palisades, CA.
Jose Hernandez Jr. builds trust and alliance with clients by approaching them with honesty, love and compassion. He motivates clients to change. Through previous employments, Jose has gained knowledge and experience from all sides of the recovery world. Working at the Malibu Ranch, he began doing service work, taking clients to meetings and mentoring newcomers. He then managed a sober living in Santa Monica. He later worked for an interventionist in Orange County as a sober companion. He was then employed at The Canyon at Peace Park in Malibu as a resident counselor for three years. Through these professional experiences, he developed a unique plan for case management that helps to bridge the gap between a client’s past and a healthy and productive future. Jose believes that long-term case management is essential in order to attain long-term sobriety. This program was launched successfully in Santa Monica in 2007.
